Getting started with journaling about why you chose your word... the more personal, the better!
Close your eyes (after you read this post) and picture your dream life. Yup. Imagination time. Do it. No, really. Do it.
It’s pretty great, right? So why is that not right now? That thought is what drives my word, choices. I journaled in my planner (in case you’re curious, an A5 sized, vertical layout Recollections planner from Michael’s ) to remind myself of why I need to be more cognizant of the choices that I make in my life.
I am an expert procrastinator. I thrive in the instant gratification of the here and now. I have very little care or empathy for my future self. This makes my life unbalanced. I choose to be these things. I no longer want to be that girl. I want to be a successful, happy woman. I want to be an excellent science teacher who is on top of her game. I want a well decorated and inviting home. I want to be proud of all aspects of my life. Notice any repetition there? “I want…” I always hide from that phrase because I don’t want to be selfish or have to live up to what I want, but sometimes it can motivate. It can be healthy when used correctly. So… what do you want?
I want… (you fill in the rest here)
Once you’ve got in your head, journal away! Be honest with yourself. Be true to yourself. This will make your word, YOUR WORD. My word scares me to death. It takes a lot of effort and a lot of drive to stay focused on it. It can potentially change my life. Wow. Game changer. Knowing why it will be hard and what the wonderful results can be makes it manageable and worth it. Time for you to close your eyes, get carried away to your dream life, figure out your #onelittleword, and journal. Cheers!
